Class Notes
1. Some of the gender gaps that remain in today’s society are regarding life span, and ability to earn money. The article states, “women and girls are more likely to die…earn less...less opportunity” (40). This shows that men still have more opportunities than women in most low-middle income nations. These changes can make the country better by “enhancing economic productivity, improve development outcomes…more representative” (40).
2. Although progress has been made closing the gender gap in education, many discrepancies still remain. Progress has been “slower for those who are poor and face other disadvantages such as ethnicity” (40). In developing countries 35 million girls do not attend school compared to 31 million boys (40).Women still have less educational opportunities in poor and developing countries.
