A Sample paragraph for your paper

This is a SIMPLE Example--

A Basic paragraph

( claim—MAIN POINT) During the 19th century the role of women was basically a domestic one, meaning they played the part of wife and housekeeper for their husband. (EVIDENCE/EXAMPLE)In the story “The Best Sort of Husband” the character of Margaret feared that her prospective husband Mr. Bailey wanted her to be a “housekeeper and mother” to his “little orphans” (Kelly 294).
(EXPLANATION/ANALYSIS) In short, a woman was expected to play the role of a worker in the home. In the novel Pride and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Elizabeth feared she would also take on this role which is why she did not want to marry Mr. Collins even if it meant keeping her home (341).

Research Paper Format

Note: To save you time later, make sure you are noting EXACT WORDS and PAGE NUMBERS from each source.

Okay,at this point you should have some notes to go on. (I would suggest 5 so that you have enough information to choose from). I would also suggest that you have notes that deal with:

Social class (differing options per class)
women's options in life
code of behavior for middle/upper class women

in order to completely cover the topic.

****If you feel like you are lacking in one of these areas, KEEP RESEARCHING. One of your sources must be find BY YOU so find one that will cover these missing areas.*** (DATABASES, GOOGLE)

When you are done, you will begin to organize your notes using the organizer below. THIS OUTLINE MUST BE COMPLETED BEFORE YOU WRITE!!!

Writing Assignment for "The Best Sort of Husband" (This counts as an essay grade---so please take it seriously) It must be completed in class today as it is a timed assignment.

In the story, "The Best Sort of Husband" by Susan B. Kelly, the author shows us two different views of what "the best sort of husband" is--the view of men on page 293 (from yesterday), and the view of Margaret on page 301.

Your assignment: You will need to use a minimum of 3 specific textual examples in your response.

*Compare and contrast these two views and explain using information you know about love and marriage in this time period if necessary. Use specific textual examples in your answer.

*Explain the author's use of literary elements and techniques such as: characterization, conflict, irony, etc. to show the audience these two views. Use specific textual examples in your answer.
