Act 5! Almost there! Copy the scene summaries for the first 3 scenes! (I do realize they are not in exactly the same format as before)

Scene 1 summary:
Antony and Octavius enter the battlefield at Phillipi with their army and Brutus and Cassius enter with their's. Octavius defies Antony's directions. They exchange insults. Brutus and Cassius say their final farewells.

Scene 2 summary:
Brutus sends Messala with orders for the forces across the field.

Scene 3 summary:
Cassius loses his battle to Antony. Cassius asks Pindarus to kill him after hearing info that leads him to believe they have lost the war, minutes before the news comes that Brutus has won his battle. Titinius kills himself. Brutus prepares for a second battle.

*You will need to use a min. 2 pieces of textual evidence in your answer
*I would suggest spreading out the evidence (meaning don't just write about Act 1--choose at least 2 acts.)

Thursday 12/15--Marc Antony becomes a major character in the play

*Scene Summary Act III, Sc. 1
Setting: The Capitol in Rome
Characters: Caesar, Marc Antony, conspirators (Brutus, Cassius, etc.)
Plot: Caesar refuses to look at the letter of warning from Artemidorus. At the Capitol, the conspirators pretend to plead a case, and stab Caesar to death. Mark Antony flees, but Brutus persuades the others to let him live. Antony returns and pretends to be an ally of the conspirators but secretly he plans to strike back with the help of Octavius Caesar.

*We need to finish the reading of Act III, Sc. 1 so go to page 743-746 in the book.

*When you are finished reading, QUIETLY work on your Act III, Sc. 1 Comprehension questions #1-8 on page 32 of your packet. (use pages 736-746 for your answers)

Act 2, Scene 2
setting: Caesar's house in Rome
characters: Calpurnia, Caesar, Decius, Brutus, Trebonius, Antony, Publius
plot: Calpurnia feels her bad dreams/bad signs are predictions of danger for Caesar. Caesar at first agrees to stay home, but then changes his mind after Decius talks him into it--he tells him her dreams were a good sign, that they were going to give him the crown and they might change their minds, (using his ego against him) and he decides he will go. The conspirators arrive to walk him to the Capitol.

Today we will:

• Read Act 2 Scenes 3 and 4
• Write Scene Summaries in your packet for those scenes (on your own-setting, characters, plot)
• Answer any remaining questions in your Act 2 Comprehension Question Section (Scene 1: #11, 12, 13/Scene 2: #1-5, Scene 3: #1/Scene 4:#1-3)
• Try your best to complete pages 20 and 21 (identifying: setting, tone, mood) for homework--start in class if you have time!!!

1. Hand in your homework (your packet for Act 2, Scene 1)---I will briefly review some of the main points in case you did not get them right:
*Cassius suggests they kill Marc Antony
*Brutus says no: it'll appear too bloody, they'll look like crazy people, Marc Antony is harmless without Caesar
*Cassius disagrees saying Marc Antony will be dangerous because he is so loyal to Caesar
*Ultimately, they decide to let him live
