Writing Assignment for "The Best Sort of Husband": Due Today!

You will need to finish the following assignment today if you want credit:

In the story "The Best Sort of Husband" by Susan B. Kelly, the author shows us two different views of what "the best sort of husband" is--the view of men at this time, on page 293, and the view of Margaret on page 301.

Your assignment: (Complete both 1 and 2)

1. Compare and contrast these two views and explain using information you know about love and marriage in this time period if necessary/you are able to. Use min. 1-2 specific textual examples in your answer.

2. Explain how the author's use of literary elements and techniques such as: characterization, conflict, irony, etc. help to express to the audience these two views. Use min. 1-2 specific textual examples in your answer.

Before you continue with your questions...write down an answer on a PIECE OF PAPER so that I can collect......

On page 293, the narrator gives us a description of what men believe is "the best sort of husband". What is it and why do they believe this to be true? Try and use the methods we have practiced to write a paragraph answering this question (integrate the quotes into sentences, cite with the page number, etc.). Try to use a minimum of two citations (exact words in quotes) as support.

A. Read Lady Macbeth’s soliloquy in Act I Scene 5, lines 15-54 and Macbeth’s in Scene 7, lines 1-28. What do you learn about the characters in these speeches? Be as specific as possible and use textual evidence as support.

1.How is Macbeth’s reaction to the witches’ prophecies different from Banquo’s reaction? What do their reactions tell you about their characters? Use details from Act I to contrast their reactions and support your ideas about their characters.
