"Do We Not Bleed" ---The Merchant of Venice
Shylock-
A Jewish moneylender in Venice. Angered by his mistreatment at the hands of Venice’s Christians, particularly the merchant Antonio, Shylock schemes to get revenge by ruthlessly demanding a pound of Antonio’s flesh as penalty for Antonio’s defaulting on a loan. The Christian characters in the play regard Shylock as an inhuman monster, frequently mocking him for being obsessed with money.
Salanio/Salarino-Venetian gentlemen/friends of Antonio
Answer the following questions in your group using textual evidence as support:
1. What words do Salarino and Salanio use to describe Shylock? What does this lead you to infer their feelings are towards him?

Research Paper due by Friday 2/28---WILL NOT BE accepted after March 7th!!!
TODAY--
We will be continuing to work on the research paper. Because of many different things going on this week: Quiz Bowl, Field Trip, African-American History Teachable Moment, etc. this week, we will use the remainder of the week to work on the paper.
This being said, you need to be WORKING ON THE PAPER at all times. This will include a daily conference and editing with me about your progress. This will also include peer-editing and self-editing components by Friday in which there will be a form to complete and turn in.
Please use the OWL at Purdue web pages for suggestions on introductions, conclusions, etc...but otherwise FOLLOW YOUR OUTLINE PLEASE!!

( claim—MAIN POINT) During the 19th century the role of women was basically a domestic one, meaning they played the part of wife and housekeeper for their husband. (EVIDENCE/EXAMPLE)In the story “The Best Sort of Husband” the character of Margaret feared that her prospective husband Mr. Bailey wanted her to be a “housekeeper and mother” to his “little orphans” (Kelly 294).
(EXPLANATION/ANALYSIS) In short, a woman was expected to play the role of a worker in the home. In the novel Pride and Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen, Elizabeth feared she would also take on this role which is why she did not want to marry Mr. Collins even if it meant keeping her home (341).

women's options in life
code of behavior for middle/upper class women
in order to completely cover the topic.
****If you feel like you are lacking in one of these areas, KEEP RESEARCHING. One of your sources must be find BY YOU so find one that will cover these missing areas.*** (DATABASES, GOOGLE)
