2. Identify a possible motif: what image in this section ("Sheep") has reoccurred as we've read?
3. Read "The Trip" page 72, silently to yourselves and we will discuss the following questions (take notes for discussion if you wish). You may discuss these questions with a partner before our group discussion if you wish. (I highly recommend writing down some notes on the questions/answers)
- What is the major change in the mood of this section? How do you know (think about how we identified mood)? What is it? What has changed about the language? What is the author's purpose?
- What juxtaposition can you identify? Where? What is the purpose?
- How has the characterization of Marji's mother changed? What has caused this?
- How does the symbolism of the "sheep" continue into this section?
4. Time to work on study guides (your choice which questions--if we can do it, we can have more time tomorrow----Quiz #2 on Tuesday: symbolism, motif, extended metaphor, juxtaposition, mood, characterization, author's purpose)
****I will also show the film (either today during worktime or Friday) for those who are interested
