"The Wine"

Let's talk about yesterday's reading: Explain the symbolism of the key and think of another time when religion has been exploited (to use selfishly for one's own ends).---remember, a symbol stands for something greater than itself--so it can't stand for what it literally is.

Let's read "The Wine" page 103

Write down the following questions and answer them in your notebook (we will discuss as a class but please be prepared to speak):

1. What is the author's purpose in this chapter?
2. Identify:
symbolism:
juxtaposition:
flashback:
diction:
mood:
2. How does she use these rhetorical devices to get her purpose across?
3. Explain the significance of the curtains.
