Agenda:
1)Fill out the scene summaries for Act II (below)
2)Read Act II, scene 4, pg. 359.
3)Go over tonight's hw pg. 59-61 in the Act II packet.
4)Work with a partner to complete the comprehension check for Act II--I am not collecting this just checking as an in-class grade.
Act II
Scene 1
Characters:Banquo, Fleance, MB
Action: Banquo tells MB about his nightmare about the witches, MB sees a hallucination of a dagger leading him into Duncan's room as if something out of his control is leading him to do this deed.
Problem/Solution:MB decides to kill the king even though he has expressed concerns but feels it cannot be stopped.
Scene 2
Characters:Lady MB, MB
Action:MB emerges after completing the murder and Lady MB is angry because he still has the daggers with him. She tells him to go in and he refuses so she does it. He says how he is hearing things and cannot say "Amen."
Problem/Solution:MB's conscience appears to be having a hard time accepting this deed; again Lady MB and MB argue over his fear.
Scene 3:
Characters:Porter, Macduff, Lennox, MB, Lady MB, Banquo, Malcolm, Donalbain
Action:Comic Relief scene with the porter, Macduff finds Duncan murdered, MB kills the guards "out of anger," Malcolm and Donalbain flee for safety.
Problem/Solution: For now, MB's problem of becoming king seems to be solved; the plan appears to have worked.
Scene 4:
Characters: Ross, Old Man, Macduff
Action: The men speak about the "unnatural" occurrences that have happened--it is dark in the daytime, Duncan's horses ate each other; MB becomes king.
Problem/Solution: The unnatural events in Act II are reflected in unnatural events in nature--showing us evil is occurring in Scotland.
