Setting in Pride and Prejudice--To be completed before you leave today 10 pts.
Setting is not only time and place of events.
Remember, class was very important to people at the this time, and because of the "new rich" the upper class wanted to make sure there was still a distinction between this middle class and themselves.

*Netherfield--Bingley's house

-What is your initial impression of the Bennet's house? (size, decor, etc.)
-What do you notice that indicates the fact that they have money/do not have tons of money?

Allusion definition---write it down if you don't remember it from the past
Definition: A direct or indirect reference to something historical, literary, religious, or mythical. The author usually uses references that will be understood by his or her audience, such as an event, book, myth, place, or work of art. You can also make allusions to pop culture.
Why Writers Use It: Allusions can help people see unique connections between two ideas. The reference can help the audience better understand a subject. Allusions can also be surprising and funny, and are a favorite tool for rappers to prove their extensive knowledge of many topics.
In other words: dropping good allusions will make you sound smart.

1. Circle unknown or unfamiliar words
2. Underline or highlight sentences that provide you with definitions of key terms. (literary elements or techniques if any)
3. Mark an X or star next to a sentence that provides an important example or a main topic.
4.Draw a question mark beside a point that is confusing.
5. Number points that the writer provides as support to back up the main concept.
6. Mark a star next to important passages.
7. Make notes to yourself in the margins. Write any questions or comments that come to mind.
8.Keep it simple: don't over do it!

For Friday 1/20
I think we will spend today working on missed work----as long as you are actually working on it! Most of you are missing several assignments -and there is no reason they should not be done with time available. If you didn't finish your poetry response, do that first. If you haven't done the Macbeth essay, I would seriously consider attempting something. There are extra credit assignments available for those who are done with everything.
