Poetry Analysis: Day 1

Before you get started, I want you to get it out of your mind, that there is only 1 way to interpret a poem; each person in this room may get something different out of it. This is not to say that the author did not have a specific intention or meaning he/she wanted to get across, but you may not pick it up exactly as he/she had planned--or at least until we get some more practice.
So, what I want you to remember is this: For right now, there ARE NO WRONG ANSWERS, as long as you are giving textual evidence to support your claims. Just make YOUR BEST ATTEMPT at any kind of understanding.

First, click on the link to read William Blake's poem "The Tyger"

(if you have a hard time looking back and forth it is also located in the book)

Second, read it again.

Third, answer the textual questions below (either copy and paste or on a sheet of paper).
Text-based questions for "The Tyger"

(if this isn't working for you try this: link)
Fourth, write a poem analysis using the sentence stems at the bottom of the page.

Fifth, we will discuss what you wrote. Be prepared to support your answers with evidence from the poem.
