"Justice" ---Notes and Homework

Add the following definition to your notes:
Theme--the central idea or message in a work of literature. Theme is not subject or what the work is about. Rather, theme is a perception about life or human nature shared with the reader. One way to discover the theme of a work is to think about what happens to the central characters.The importance of those events, stated in term that apply to all human beings, is the theme.

Homework:
Please try to be specific and thoughtful in your answers--aim to not only answer the question FULLY, but also bring up poignant examples and points to ponder.
1. What is your definition of "justice"?
2. In your opinion, is justice best served in a court of law? Can it be served elsewhere?
3. In your experience, is the justice system "fair"? Why or why not?
4. Do you believe people of a lower socioeconomic status, race, gender, etc. are assumed to be criminals more than others? Why or why not?
5. Once you have been accused or convicted of a crime, do you think it is difficult to get your reputation as an honorable person back--is it impossible?
